Best AI Tools for Resume Writing

As knowledge workers, we spend days and weeks reading and absorbing information that helps us improve our work. Between the ever-growing pile of industry reports, market studies, and the usual work emails and documents, there’s always something new demanding our cognitive attention.

The worst part? The reading list never seems to shrink. Despite the time I dedicate to it every day, I always feel like I’m falling behind.

That’s why AI summarizers excite me so much. These handy tools can process 50-page work PDFs or summarize the key points of lengthy research reports in just a few minutes. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably already tried a few!

In this blog post, I’ll share the best AI summarization tools that my team and I recently tested. They will help both you and me catch up on our reading faster than ever and finally close those 237 open tabs.

Let’s get started!

Table of Contents

What Should You Look For in AI Document Summarizers?

When compiling this list, I tested over a dozen AI summarization tools. Many of them use OpenAI’s GPT engine to provide concise summaries. However, I also found a few built on proprietary large language models (LLMs). While the latter offered more customization options, they also came at a higher price.

Here’s what I looked for when testing these applications:

  • Language Model: Does the tool use a custom large language model (LLM) or leverage existing models like GPT? If it uses the latter, which version of the GPT engine should we subscribe to?
  • Customizations: Can I modify the length or format of the summary? Can I give special instructions or request specific information?
  • Quality of the Generated Summary: I evaluated how well each tool captured the essence of the original document. Did they retain the original phrasing and capture key sentences, or did they simplify the language for better readability?
  • Cost: Beyond the price, I delved into the “cost-value” proposition of paid tools. Do the extra fees provide access to useful features, or are they just gimmicks?
  • Ease of Use: How intuitive and user-friendly were the interfaces? This includes file upload options, Chrome extensions, and navigation within the user interface.

For AI summarizers that support multiple languages, I also tested some of these capabilities, focusing on their accuracy in French and Spanish (in addition to English).

Let’s continue our review and see how each AI summarization tool performed!

The 10 Best AI Document Summarization Tools to Use in 2025

In this section, we will explore individual summarization tools, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses so you can make an informed choice.

ClickUp: Best for AI Document Management

Best AI Tools for Resume Writing
Best AI Tools for Resume Writing

ClickUp is an all-in-one work management platform that helps you with document collaboration, project management, and internal communication from a single application.

And the best part? All these tools are closely integrated with ClickUp Brain. This AI writing assistant can help you with everything from researching information to drafting content, summarizing project updates, and translating documents.

  • Summarize Meetings
Use ClickUp Brain to add a summary to each meeting transcript document for an overview of the conversation.

Simply add your documents to ClickUp Docs (the integrated document collaboration software) and ask the AI to summarize the text. You can also give instructions on the tone of the summary, its readability level, and its audience to make it more contextual.

  • Create Task Lists from Extracted Information
Another way to use ClickUp Brain is to ask it to find information and then create a document or task list from that information. For example, I could ask ClickUp to inform me about the onboarding process in my company and then create an onboarding task list in ClickUp for a new employee to refer to.
  • Summarize Project Discussion Threads
ClickUp Projects also offers a “summarize” button for all ClickUp Tasks and comment threads. I just need to click this button to summarize all project updates. This helps me stay updated without having to manually sift through fifty messages.
  • Summarize Status Updates
Additionally, you can use ClickUp’s Ask AI feature to receive updates on work and track your team’s progress weekly (or daily).

This is a handy feature, especially for managers.

  • Automate Summary Generation
Want to track multiple projects at once? You can use ClickUp’s Custom Fields to add AI summaries and project updates as two columns in your tasks and get automatic summaries without having to open your assignments or projects each time.
  • Translate (and Summarize) Content
Communicating with an international team or non-English-speaking clients can sometimes be tricky. I overcame this issue by adding my documents in English and asking ClickUp Brain to summarize them in another language, which I can share with my non-English-speaking clients.

Best Features of ClickUp

  • Summarize Everything: From project threads to meeting notes and chat messages, generate a summary of all content directly in ClickUp.
  • Add a Summary Box: Give your teammates an overview of each document or page in ClickUp by inserting an automatically generated summary block.
  • Extract Actions to Take: Let ClickUp Brain review your documents, chats, and meeting transcripts and create a list of actions to take or next steps for you.
  • Translate Text: Generate quick summaries of documents in different languages and ensure international teams are on the same page.
  • Get Summaries on Mobile: If you use ClickUp on your smartphone, you can enable automatic summaries of your comment threads and messages in the inbox.

Limitations of ClickUp

  • You cannot directly summarize a PDF file (except by copying and pasting all the content).

ClickUp Pricing

  • Free Forever
  • Unlimited: $7/user per month
  • Business: $12/user per month
  • Enterprise: Contact for pricing
  • The ClickUp Brain service is available on all paid plans for $7 per workspace member per month.

Get Digest: Best for Generating Summaries of Different Lengths

The next tool I tested is Get Digest, a simple AI summarizer with a user-friendly interface and a powerful document summarization system.

This tool stands out because you can choose from different summarization modes and determine the length of the summary. The “% of source” section offers six options: 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, and 55. The higher the number, the longer the summary.

I recommend this summarization tool if you know how much information you need from a text. For example, if you only want the most important information from an article, you can choose “5%.” If you want the gist of the article, nearly half the length of the article, choose “55” instead.

However, its ability to summarize articles is limited: it gives you a set of keywords and a summary of the key points. You cannot get the summary of the document in a single paragraph or request specific highlights.

Get Digest Best Features

  • Generate summaries by pasting text directly, entering a URL, or uploading PDF documents.
  • Download summaries as text files.
  • Get summaries for texts in over 33 languages.
  • Determine the number of keywords you can extract from the text.

Limitations of Get Digest

  • The upper limit is 7000 words.
  • Summaries generated from URLs were less reliable and complete than when we pasted the text directly from the source or uploaded a document.

Get Digest Pricing

  • Free
  • Enterprise: Starting at $133 per license per month

Scribbr: Best Free Text Summarizer for Academic Research

Scribbr provides AI writing tools for academics and researchers, with features such as academic writing and editing, APA style editing, citations, and, of course, summarization.

The most interesting part is that you don’t need to sign up to use this summarization tool. You can even check if the generated summary is free of plagiarism. And this is also free. So, if you are a student looking for budget-friendly summarization tools, this is a good option.

Scribbr Best Features

  • Generates text summaries or bullet-point summaries of your text.
  • Customize the purpose of your summary by choosing keywords.
  • Download a TXT file of your summaries.
  • Use the Re-summarize option to modify the length of the generated summary.

Limitations of Scribbr

  • Given the 600-word limit, summarizing a long article can be challenging.

Summary Generator: Ideal for Students and Non-Tech-Savvy Individuals

I presented Summary Generator, a basic document summarizer with a minimal user interface (only three buttons), for students or individuals who may be intimidated by more advanced tools on this list.

Here’s how it works: you add a block of text, and it provides you with a simpler, more readable version, including lists. You can click the “Copy” button and paste this text into a word processor or notepad.

Given that the tool has minimal features, you cannot download the summary as a text file or request specific excerpts.

Summary Generator Best Features

  • Generates concise and easily readable summaries in seconds.

Limitations of Summary Generator

  • You cannot generate customized summaries.
  • Ads may make the experience slightly cluttered.

Notta: Best for Summarizing Meeting Transcripts

Notta is primarily a note-taking application, but it can analyze the nuances of dialogue. Therefore, it is the ideal tool for summarizing webinar and podcast transcripts.

I appreciated how Notta creates chapters for each transcript summary—it feels like reading a blog post or a book, not just a series of bullet points.

You can also use Notta in your meeting recap documents to extract useful information.

Notta Best Features

  • Generates chapter summaries of all your transcripts and creates process documents.
  • Use customizable templates for different types of meetings.
  • Share the summarized text using a link.

Limitations of Notta

  • The summary generator is only available in the paid offer.
  • It is not possible to directly summarize PDFs or web articles.

  • Pro: $14.99/user per month
  • Business: $27.99/user per month

Paraphraser.io: Best Free Long Text Summarizer

Want to summarize large documents? Paraphraser.io is an excellent option. I tried summarizing a 15,000-word scientific article, and the results were excellent.

It also displays details such as the number of words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in the original text. This allows for comparison between the summary and the original. However, it is not possible to create customized summaries based on elements such as tone or keywords.

Although Paraphraser.io also allows generating bullet-point summaries, I found them disjointed and lacking original context in some cases. I also tested its summarization capabilities in French, and the results were satisfactory.

Paraphraser.io Best Features

  • Generates summaries in nine languages, including French, Turkish, and Portuguese.
  • Paraphrases the generated summary for further simplification.
  • Checks for plagiarism and grammatical errors as part of the free plan.
  • Easily summarize long articles and academic documents.

Limitations of Paraphraser.io

  • No prompts for summarization.
  • Some user interface features, like the summary length slider, can be confusing.

  • Free
  • Basic: Starting at $7/user per month
  • Enterprise: Starting at $35/user per month

Jasper: Best Summarization Tool for Enterprise Teams

Best AI Tools for Resume Writing
Best AI Tools for Resume Writing

Jasper is well-known as an AI content generator designed for enterprise teams. But one of its features also includes AI text summarization.

I uploaded my text into Jasper and generated summaries using one of the three default prompts and my own prompt. While the default prompts work well, you’ll get better results by adding more context to your custom prompts.

The “Audience” option, which generates the summary for different types of audiences, is a feature that impressed me. For example, I received a very easy-to-understand summary of an article on NFTs.

Jasper offers a 7-day free trial (a credit card is required) so you can explore its features before purchasing.

Jasper Best Features

  • Generates summaries in over 25 languages.
  • Use the Jasper Chrome extension to easily summarize emails and Google documents.
  • Use the AI Copilot to create summaries in your brand’s voice and tone.

Limitations of Jasper

  • No free plan.
  • Does not summarize PDFs.

Writesonic: Best AI Text Summarizer for Concise Summaries

Writesonic uses OpenAI’s LLM for summarization, but it has been specifically trained on marketing content. This makes it an excellent summary generator for marketers. For example, you can ask it to generate a hook for social media posts from a long-form article. And you can regenerate the summary to modify it.

The Article Writer 6 feature is particularly interesting. I just had to provide a topic (interactive demos) and choose a few references. Within minutes, Writesonic created a draft with contributions from all those references. It also cites the references, allowing you to return to those articles for further research.

A true time-saver for writers in the research and drafting phase!

Writesonic Best Features

  • Summarize multiple blog articles and rewrite them into a single long-form article.
  • Create summaries of your articles specific to a channel in one click and easily distribute them.
  • Generate summaries in over 25 languages, including French, Spanish, and Japanese.

Limitations of Writesonic

  • The quality of the summary depends on the number of credits. Generating high-quality summaries can therefore be costly.

Writesonic Pricing

  • Standard: $99 per month (includes 1 team member)
  • Professional: $199 per month (includes 3 team members)
  • Advanced: $399 per month (5 team members)

Gimme Summary AI: Best Free Article Summarizer for Chrome Browsers

How many times have you bookmarked an article to read later because you were pressed for time? Thanks to the Gimme Summary AI Chrome or Brave extensions, I can get an overview of the main discussion points of any online article in seconds.

And the best part is that I don’t need to copy and paste the text. I don’t have to copy and paste articles into different tabs to get the summary.

However, since Gimme Summary AI is based on ChatGPT, I am prompted to go to the ChatGPT window to authenticate when I request to generate a summary, which can be inconvenient.

Gimme Summary AI Best Features

  • Generate one-click summaries of web articles directly from their web page.
  • Get free AI summaries without ads and without having to provide your contact information.

Limitations of Gimme Summary AI

  • Supports only English.
  • As it is an open-source project, it can sometimes be buggy.

Copy.ai: Best for Bulk Document Summarization

Sometimes, even summarizing content can become a huge waste of time, especially if you are a marketer who needs to summarize blogs into bullet points for social media or a research student who needs to read a hundred different research articles for a paper you are writing.

In this case, Copy.ai is the ideal choice. Its document flow automation features allow you to streamline the summarization process.

I used it to write a blog post on thought leadership. I simply created a summary prompt describing my specific needs. Copy.ai then condensed my interviews with SMEs, compiling the key points from each conversation into a single concise summary.

Copy.ai Best Features

  • Use Copy.ai’s summary templates to write your summaries and save time.
  • Create automated workflows to generate summaries of multiple documents or even summaries of different versions of a document with a single request.
  • Generate optimized meta titles and descriptions for your blog posts in one click.

Limitations of Copy.ai

  • Automated workflows are only available in paid plans.
  • Copy.ai does not summarize web articles from URLs.

  • Advanced: $249 for 5 users per month
